Tidying Up a Bit
November 14, 2004 8:27 a.m., MT Music: David Bowie, Changes Well, as expected, the first day of the Great Canning Extravaganza didn't go exactly as planned, but I can report that I've a nice yield of spiced apple jelly sitting on the counter, nicely cooled and waiting to be washed and labeled. The problem was largely that I forgot how time-consuming preparing the fruit for canning is; hence, the work that I'd planned to do far exceeded the time allotted, and my energy level. Having learned my lesson yesterday, today I'm doing the easiest recipe I chose, so that I'll have time for relaxation and fun with family. I'll get back to the more challenging recipes on Monday. Meantime, if you're a regular visitor you may have noticed some changes to the graphics that lead to other areas of this web site ... Yes, I'm planning some changes. I cleaned up the ugly header graphics (at last! What's pood, you ask? Well, answering that one requires a snake story, which I may create later today once my cranberry-cider jelly is canned and cooling. So, try to curb your impatience ... keep your curiosity firmly in check -- all will be revealed in good time! Meanwhile, if you're looking for something of substance to mentally chew on today, Morpheus over at The Statrix has a couple of interesting entries on the freedom philosophy, based on an essay and his response to it. Start with Morpheus' blog entry When Liberty Attacks, then proceed to the second, Following liberty to its logical conclusions. (Both links go to pages that include the interesting exchanges via comments between Morpheus and Kris, the original essay's author.) For what it's worth, I'll chime in here and say that my position, as best I can tell from these exchanges (I haven't read Kris' original essay), is closer to Morpheus'. I already said my piece on that, in Law and Liberty. However, I think these two are somewhat talking past each other, or conflating the goal itself with outreach strategies. Alas, no time to respond in greater detail right now ... and I think I already have, albeit tangentially, somewhere else (and of course I can't find it now Replies: 1 brave individual has opined On Sunday, November 14th, Bill St. Clair said:
