Beautiful Yellow Flowers!

It's been dry all day today, although the sulky clouds still threaten to cry ... so I've been outside with the snolfs enjoying the day. Our lawn is starting to get away from us; it's been too rainy to mow most weekends of late. The snolfs like it, though; they love to crouch in the grass and semi-hide as they dig for worms, watch bugs, and generally observe nature in action.

This afternoon, the beauty of the dandelions carpeting our yard caught my attention. I'm used to seeing ugly, twisted flowers, either chemically tortured or unhappy about the hot sun. Ours are flourishing, and even though they aren't the most beautiful flower one could have in one's yard, I've never understood the passion with which some despise them. (But then, I've never understood that perfectly manicured, sterile-lawn look either.) Here's a small, sunshiny, closeup sample of our healthy crop of dandelions:

I need to experiment more with this camera's settings ... although that image is nice enough, it fails to capture the exuberance of their yellow. I also got a nice, wider view of most of the front yard, showing just how yellow it is ... but that might be too much for the anti-dandelion brigade. wink
