I Should be Cooking Already, But ...

... instead I'm enjoying the morning quiet. As part of that, I'll explain what I meant by "Rochestered". If you're interested ...

Monday was slated to be a busy day; I'd a few errands to run and intended to do some cleaning as part of the general Thanksgiving preparations. Upon returning home from one set of errands, I was trying to gather sufficient motivation to start cleaning -- no easy feat, as I just didn't have much enthusiasm for the job, or for Thanksgiving. I usually enjoy the celebrations greatly, but without Sweetie as part of them this year it was hard to muster my energy.

A knock sounded on our front door. It being too early for the mail (and besides, we've a huge mailbox that can easily swallow all but the biggest of packages), and us being on a private road, I had no idea who it might be. I opened the door ...

And for the first time in many, many years, doubted what my eyes were telling me. It simply couldn't be my beloved standing there: a multitude of reasons why it couldn't pushed through my mind. But the dream smiled, and I found myself wrapped around him and feeling his arms encircling me tightly. It was real! Sweetie had more vacation time than he reckoned, and used some to come here in order to spend some time with us and some of his family. Amazing how just one squeeze can change a person's emotionscape ...

Today we'll be welcoming Lobo home from a long business trip and enjoying Thanksgiving celebrations. I'll be doing the celebrating at two homes. Many folks seem to dislike "doing the rounds" for holiday celebrations; I confess I've never grokked that. It may be inconvenient to drive to different places in order to see people, but I've always looked at it as having lots of people one cares about nearby. How could that be a bad thing?

I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving, enjoyed in whatever way you desire! Now off to the kitchen with me!

[If you're still unsure what "Rochester" has to do with this story, it's a Jane Eyre allusion. After a long separation, Jane returns to her beloved Mr. Rochester who, crippled and nearly blind from a fire, doubts that her unexpected return is genuine. It's a moving scene -- one of many from one of my favorite books.]
