Message to Nanny-Ninnies: Fuck Off

We have a screwing project on tap for today [not that kind, gutter-minds!], and in getting material set up I noticed a severe-sounding warning on a box of screws:

The use of all screws requires wearing eye protection.

Oh it does, does it? And just how's this company going to enforce that requirement? And what, exactly, constitutes use? Am I using the screws when I walk on the floor they're holding together? Do I need eye protection for that? Fucking idiots.

I know I'm not alone in rejecting all so-called safety requirements and evaluating for myself whether I should use some kind of precaution. That said, it was very gratifying to read this in yesterday's news:

Ben Roethlisberger said he doesn't plan on doing public safety announcements for motorcycle or helmet safety following his accident last month.

"I don't think that's my place," the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback said in a taped interview aired Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"Some people feel that, you know, I probably should be doing that and being a big advocate for that," Roethlisberger said from Los Angeles. "But for me, I'm going to let people make their own decisions ... So I don't think you'll see me doing any kind of billboards or advertisements."

Good for you, Ben!

An easy enough attitude for you or I to take.

But the overworked, overpayed slaves of the NFL's facsist oligarchs are probably the worst victims of the pervasive nanny-state mentality; amoungst the most unfree of the unfree in the manner that their lives are micro-managed for them, beyond what's necessitated for performance.

I'd be surprised if he's not reprimanded and pressured by the NFL to recant and reverse his position.

Such a blasphemous and treasonous remark! Could get him on a no-fly list; how inconvenient.

Maybe the most heroic thing he's ever done.
