Freedom Street road sign

If freedom were as easy as just finding the right location, how many of us would still never find our way there? The road to freedom is littered with broken down souls ... people who couldn't overcome their fear of failure, their fear of success, their aversion to risk, their unease over uncertainty, their distate for personal responsibility, or their simple unwillingness to put forth the effort to take one more step. And there are certainly many more obstacles that provide us with a reason to stagger to the side of the road and say, I can't go on.

But it isn't a location—it's no more a static thing than anything else in life, and thank goodness for that. Because that means that when we're rested, when we've taken some time to gather our wits and resources and reflect on where we've been and what we've done, and peered a bit down the road and spied something worth pursuing, we can get to our feet again and tell ourselves, Right, then. Onward we go.

I didn't have a list of goals to achieve over this summer vacation of sorts. I really didn't have many expectations, even. I was hoping for a mostly pleasant time with my beloved MAL and my snolfs. But, in gaining some distance and perspective on various matters, I find it's been revelatory.

Where am I heading? It's still a bit early to say. But I've got a lot of ideas—and a much sharper focus on goals and how to try to achieve them than I have had in a very long time.

And it's that process—the attempt to reach one's dreams, and bring them into reality—that's where freedom lives.

Yes, I agree with you, absolutely.
How quickly you are able to "gain distance and perspective." We have been living in a foreign country for over three years and are just getting to the point of being able to say, "Right, then. Onward we go." smile

Thanks, lyzard. Going PT seems to be one of the choices that often requires a good bit of roadside rest—there's always something unexpected to deal with on that path.

Hope your explorations farther down your road are well rewarded!
