Friend News Update

I've always known I've a lot of interesting friends, but it seems that of late many of them have really upped the ante. At the risk of inadvertently overlooking some fine folk, here's some neat stuff that's come to my attention lately—and in one case, not so lately:
Fellow psychologist and privacy lover Shaun Saunders has had one of his short stories produced as a podcast at Beam Me Up. The story is one of my favorites of his, The Final Solution; and Shaun told me that others are in production. I hope this is the start of a good trend for his creative writing. I want to read more from his Mallcity universe. Congratulations, Shaun!
A while back, Ian posted several MP3s by a band one of his sons is in. I downloaded 'em at first sight, but didn't listen until a couple of weeks later—and regretted that decision immediately. It's always a crapshoot listening to new bands, and I've lost a few times; but these guys are good. My speakers aren't hooked up to my machine at present, so I can't give a detailed review (look for that to come elsewhere, if you know what I mean). Instead I'll just say that I recall being very impressed by the band's diversity; and I agree with Ian, I want more of Bompf Bompf! Ian has also been baking bread—a fair amount of it, quite possibly with some interesting-sounding variations yet to come. I wonder if I can adapt some of his recipes to be wheat-free for MAL ... and I know Ian will chuckle when I admiringly call him a lard ass. Most impressive!
Kevin Van Horn has posted another intriguing article focusing on a piece of his Beyond Ballots and Bullets project at Strike the Root. It's titled The Strategic Estimate: First Step on the Path to Freedom. As he develops his ideas more fully, Kevin shows that this project isn't a hastily cobbled plan born of a flash of frustration or anger; he's put a lot of thought and research into what he's doing, and requests that participants do similarly. He's convinced me that his approach is a sound one to restoring liberty in this country. (Although I must say, with some regret, that I'm not sure that his plan will be able to overcome both the political and economic damage coming the USSA's way. But I'm no seer, so that shouldn't be taken as any kind of knock against what he's doing.)
While at StR, I noticed that another liberty-loving singer has taken up residence there. Steve Trinward's first essay, Is America a Place...Or a Vision?, captured my interest in large part because he mentions a book I'm quite fond of, and provides an indirect supporting push for Kevin's project. Well done, Steve.
The item that really got me missing my speakers is—finally!—the eleventh Uncle Warren's Attic is up. I downloaded it the other day and still haven't listened to it, for shame!
Did I miss your big accomplishment or project? Tell us about it in the comments! (That is not an invitation for you spammers to peddle your crap.)
[And I'll take the opportunity to point out that my caramel button is back, for those of you who've been waiting so patiently. Other goodies are for sale too, so check it out! Folks who order soon will get an additional sample or two of some new goodies I'm working on.]

I haven't read the article on ensuring a sincere thank you - but hopefully you will know that indeed, I'm sincerely thankful for your comments on my son's band's music.
The mp3's are low quality - but hopefully I'll be getting a copy of the CD with the higher quality and will convert those to mp3's.
Thanks again, Sunni!

Meanwhile, I'm still plugging away at my latest graphic novel collaboration with L. Neil Smith: _Roswell, Texas._ So I might as well plug it here, too. It concerns a nearly-libertarian Texas that never joined the United States in an alternative history, and what happens when a flying saucer crash lands (actually it was shot down by hot-dog Texas Air Militia pilot Gene Roddenberry) near the far West Texas town of Roswell.
We started serializing this epic in May of this year, and it will last until early 2008. Check it out at www.bigheadpress.com/roswell
