This Is What the So-Called Drug War has Come to in the USSA
![]() Words fail me—I just can't communicate how horrified I am at seeing such a photo and thinking of what that child went through, and is probably still dealing with. Does he know that a picture of him urinating was taken, and is online where millions of individuals can see it? I posted it here (and have saved a copy on my hard drive) with some reluctance; I don't want to add to the boy's exposure, but this is a very important image. It must not be memory-holed. It should serve as a conscience tweak (if such a thing is possible) to all drug warriors and their armchair supporters everywhere. This is the kind of sick society you're making. How many parents, grandparents, uncles or aunts—any grownup who genuinely cares about a child—would want to see their wee one in such a situation? Irrespective of the guilt or innocence (as those words pertain to current law, not what the voluntary rules for living in a genuinely civil society would be) of the adults who're the ones receiving Imperial attention, what sane adult would want a child to be in such an environment? Yet, in the farce that the war on politically unpopular substances has become, scenarios like this are probably everyday occurrences. What makes this situation even more egregious is that this photo won a prize in the College Photographer of the Year contest, for spot news. If you've the stomach for it, click through to see another revolting award-winning photo, right below this one. When did police brutality turn into celebrated spectacle? How many situations like these occur in the USSA every single day, but aren't even mentioned in the local news, much less captured in images? I don't think I want to think about that; even though I've been fully aware for many years that America is decidedly not the land of the free, and the home of the brave, the full import of how far wrong this culture has gone is not a healthy subject to dwell on. Radley Balko has much more on the North Carolina goons' activities, of which the highly offensive photo above is just a small taste; thanks to the fine folks at The Boondocks for bringing his post to my attention.
