Sunni and the Conspirators

I don't know if the Love it or leave it slogan of old is back in fashion again here in the USSA, but I do know that if I'm rather more careless than I tend to be in casual conversation, and let slip my discontent with Amerikan policy or culture, I'm likely to get the oh-so-not-helpful response, You can leave.

Thing is, I did leave ... and then came back, for reasons that I still think made it the right decision. And, as has been fairly clear here of late, I've been giving serious consideration to the question of whether to leave again, or to stay. (And I have to admit, when I learned that the head of the USSA GAO undertook—and is still on—a fiscal wake-up tour, I took that as a serious nudge.) I've always resented those who insinuate that I'm wrong to want more freedom here in the USSA, but never developed a solid response to their invitations to head for an exit.

I see today that I no longer need to; Ian has done it for me, in You Can Always Move. A small taste:

Don't tell me that I can move because I'm disgusted with further regulation, or the fact that debate on the use of military forces is something that you think shouldn't be debated... hell, even Canada, in 1914, was able to at least openly debate the use of its military - without assholes telling the dissenters to move.

You move. There's plently of places where government regulation is so engrained, that you'll be quite happy to be there, and have very little protest from others.

Don't tell me to move because I desire freedom and am disgusted by assholes that want to regulate my behaviour. YOU move.. there are plenty of places that would absolutely welcome your political attitudes about freedom and regulation - none of which are traditional in the history of Canada.

This attitude of some that would motivate them to say, You move when I would put forth my protestations against their freedom reducing ideas is insane. Canada has been, historically, prior to the 1960's, a much freer nation than even the USA.

So you don't like my attempts to make it even freeer or persuade others of the virtues of freedom and show the evils of democracy, Canadian style? Then YOU move.

Good stuff!

[Minor programming note: I'm currently beset by fog and thick clouds, making internet access wildly intermittent. Those of you expecting to work with me on various items in progress, I'll try; yesterday I was offline much of the day and am thinking I might be in for more of the same today.]

I agree. My reply to such a request is "This is MY country and I want the thugs who stole the government--and anyone who supports them--to leave!!"

Wow, W.D., I can see where that would shut 'em down.

Thanks, gents, for your comments, and I hope you're enjoying the holiday season.
