Taking "No Coincidences" Too Far ...

I have been longing for snow since returning to MAL’s lair. I enjoy it immensely—watching it float lazily, or tumble downward in thrashing winds; the beauty of transformed land- and seascapes; its mysterious transformation of night into ethereal beauty; and of course, sliding through it on skis. I even enjoy shoveling snow.

We had a dusting of snow Saturday, but it wasn’t until after we’d gotten Tux settled in on my machine that my desires were met. I awoke this morning to an atypical soft glow from the predawn dark outside. Snow! A couple of inches’ worth, and more falling ... still falling, in fact, and somewhat more energetically than it was earlier.

Did Tux bring the snow? It’s amusing to think so ... but I think that’s taking the “no coincidences” thing a bit too far.

(More coincidental commentary, and of greater substance too, once I get some items accomplished.)

You left out the very best thing about snow... that soft sound it makes as it falls.

Dapper (6.06) or Edgy (6.10)?

I expect that you'll probably like Krita over GIMP. GIMP's interface is NOT straightforward, though it has some advantages. After looking at Krita a little bit, I prefer its interface but haven't yet seen a function to make an image "seamless" for backgrounds. (GIMP has a handy filter: "Make seamless."wink

However, Krita has Ruby (and Python) scripting. I'm charmed by that and may be able to find or write something to do the seamless function.

I've been getting accustomed to 6.10 by playing as I get chances. I have my "crypto-Sony" in front of me with XP for work and Joe's old HP with "Edgy" on my left.

As for snow, I like to watch it fall, but don't like shoveling. Snow or winter in general, helps to make one appreciate a snug warm house.

A new Ender's Review came up a few minutes ago. I hope to have the Salon out tomorrow.

Kathryn, I don’t know how I left out any mention of snow sounds, because I was thinking of various wonderful ones (mostly related to skiing) as I was typing. Thank you for correcting my egregious oversight!

Tom, I’m an Edgy girl. I was hopeful that the crappy GIMP GUI was limited to the Windows versions, but it looks like that isn’t so, so I’ll give Krita a go.

Shoveling snow is a zen thing for me; plus it’s good exercise when the snow is heavy/and or deep enough.

Another good Review, too.
