Review of Innocents Betrayed

Innocents Betrayed is the title of the long-awaited JPFO documentary presenting the inevitable outcome of gun control. While that may seem an odd title for a documentary focusing on the right to keep and bear arms, it is apt in many ways. I can't in all honesty say the film was pleasant to watch -- despite an ongoing conversation with screenwriter Claire Wolfe about it during its production I was still unprepared for its impact -- but I can assure you that any individual with integrity who sees it will have to grant that firearms have a legitimate place in private individuals' hands.

Germans, Russians, Asians, Arabs, Jews, Africans -- all have suffered the consequences of gun control. Innocents Betrayed documents the genocides innocent people suffered at their governments' hands, and asks the important question: Is America next? I fear we might be, unless people see this documentary and take steps to ensure it doesn't happen here. The point that innocent individuals pay the price when states control who has the means to defend themselves is hammered home, with unerring accuracy, through each segment. The imagery accompanying each is at times gruesome, but necessary to emphasize that the stakes in the gun-rights issue are literally life and death. With all the propaganda that the U.S. government and media have been spewing about gun violence (and which John Lott ably dissects in his latest book -- see my review for Free-Market.Net), a forceful presentation of the truth is required to penetrate minds clouded by Bowling for Columbine, and Rosie O'Donnell's shrill rants.

Some may choose to quibble about aspects of Innocents Betrayed. The roving target that zeroes in on the country that's the focus of the next segment may seem distracting, or silly to some. For me it helped provide a short escape from the mounting tension as the film progressed -- for those who are geographically impaired it will help provide context. How the numbers are arrived at in each segment may cause problems for some, but in the end, whatever the numbers, the conclusion is the same: the state kills. When it takes away guns from lawful citizens, it can do so much more easily and brutally. For those who won't read R.J. Rummel, Innocents Betrayed will drive home the same conclusions.

Innocents Betrayed is a riveting, heartbreakingly powerful documentary that clearly links gun control and registration with genocide time and time again. I don't see how any rational person could see it and fail to be moved. I would dearly love to be with Dianne Feinstein, Charles Schumer, Sarah Brady, or Rosie O'Donnell (among others) at a viewing of Innocents Betrayed. Seeing their attempts to deny the inevitable results of gun control would be informative, and amusing. However, I doubt they have the intellectual integrity to see the film, let alone acknowledge its truths.

The intention behind the making of Innocents Betrayed is to take the truth about gun control to the general populace, who think that RKBA supporters are by and large "gun nuts" and "paranoid extremists". The powerful closing of the documentary shows that those who understand the importance of firearms for personal defense are anything but paranoid, or extremists. I believe that Innocents Betrayed is our best -- and perhaps our last -- hope of reaching those who will examine the issues with a critical eye, and decide for themselves who's telling the truth -- the state, or the individuals who've understood all along what our Founding Fathers did when they wrote the Second Amendment. Another criticism that could be leveled at Innocents Betrayed is that it leaves completely unaddressed the power of armed resistance to the state. But that's another documentary for another time -- and if enough people buy Innocents Betrayed and share it with friends, it will be made by JPFO. Let's help see that happen.

Innocents Betrayed is available for purchase from JPFO's web site: single copy price is $29.95. They offer several packages and combinations with special prices to help make it easy to buy multiple copies for sharing. Order here. Available in VHS or DVD format.
