Arrrgh! What was an intermittent problem has ramped up to a persistent one, and I’ve no idea why, nor how to fix it.
I use Swiftfox as my web browser, because that was the easiest way to get Flash enabled on my machine. When I’m working on web pages, I like to preview them in it so that I can spot errors more easily, etc. I have been using Bluefish for html editing, and also Kate sometimes. I used to be able to (intermittently) use the relevant menu selections in each to preview my document in Swiftfox, but that has completely stopped working. When I browse Krusader, and select “open with Swiftfox”, that also fails now. What does happen when I try any of these actions is this: Swiftfox opens a new window, containing a tab that goes to my home page. And that’s it.
Anybody got some ideas on how to fix this? Or work around it? (I’ve never tried to open a local document from a browser’s address pane. Guess it’s time I learned how.) Thanks in advance for any ideas contributed!

It sounds like swiftfox is not being passed the argument for the file you want. Open Konqueror, than open go to /usr/share/applications . Right-click on swiftfox.desktop . Click Actions, then edit as root. Enter your password. When Kate opens, look for a line that should look like this:
That %u is important. If it's not there, add it, then save. If it is there, then something else is wrong. Let me know, then maybe I can help you further.
BTW, to open a local file in firefox/swiftfox, just click File, then Open File, and browse for the file you want. Pretty easy.
Try starting swiftfox from a
Try starting swiftfox from a command line to see if it throws an error.
No joy
Thanks, gents, for your suggestions.
EotS, Swiftfox opens with no problem from the command line.
Presto, the “%u” was not there, but adding it (and restarting) has made no difference. But, since you pointed out the easy way to open a file (I am so embarrassed that I didn’t recognize that!), it’s not that important.
Funny how certain computer habits become so ingrained that they can blind one to other ways of accomplishing a task.
Weird.
Strange...sounds like this one is one for the folks at the Kubuntu or Ubuntu Forums boards. I can't think of what might be in common between these packages that would cause your problem.

I certainly don’t know either, but as long as I can accomplish what I need to, I’m good. I have a lot of updating—or maybe a move to Feisty Fawn, I dunno—to do, so it’s possible the problem will resolve itself in that process. Thanks again for your help!
