Have I Mentioned That HughesNet Really Sucks?

Well. Now that I’m finally here, I don’t know where to begin. Oh, yeah, that should be easy: HughesNet sucks.

After our service was “upgraded”—HughesNet is apparently a big George Orwell fan—we played along with their game, trying to move up a service level.

When the new modem was installed, we had maybe 30 minutes of decent service. Ever since, it has been nearly continually awful – which means that we have never been able to use it enough for the FAP to come into play. The web acceleration appears to be the source of most of the problem, and although the online status report cheerily assures, “If there are no red flags below you should be able to browse the web”, that is simply not the case. Nor can I send or receive email in a timely fashion; most often the process hangs or times out. It took over two hours yesterday to send just one email with a smallish attachment.

And the speeds when we are able to get online? Comparable, I kid you not, to the old, clunky, external modem days when connectivity was measured by baudrate.

Thanks, HughesNet, for the upgrade-to-maintain-original-service-level that is actually a big step down in service. We can’t get away from your shitty business fast enough to suit us.

And now you know why I’ve not been seen anywhere online of late, and why you’ve not gotten an email reply from me. I’m not pleased, but I have gotten a lot of weeding done, plus the snolfs and I’ve been playing a lot. So, overall, I’m okay for now.

Doh!

I've been wondering what was happening with you. Hope your web access gets straightened out soon!

HN

Kick some HN butt and get back online! We need more snakey posts!

If you can't work out things with HN, what are your options for an ISP in your area?

So...

Let me get this straight. Are you saying that HughesNet sucks? 'Cause that's what I'm getting out of this post. ;)
