Here, On the Night of January Sixteenth: Celebrating One Little Victory

Or maybe more than one victory: that’s up to you esteemed readers.

I mentioned this idea already, but the more I think about it, the more inspired I am by it. Well, that and the fact that B.W. has already taken the first step. I’ve seen evidence of other steps being taken since my tirade the other day ... and I know of other good things that predate this idea, that I’ve been biting my tongue not to spill. You might have thought I was kidding when I mentioned planning a party. I wasn’t.

On January 16th, all who wish to participate are invited to celebrate “a spirit breaking free” in some way: via some accomplishment(s) ... steps taken toward a cherished dream or goal ... attaining personal growth or some greater understanding ... whatever you want to share. I don’t have a lot of firm ideas on the form of the celebration, other than that I create an entry to kick off the celebration, and all who want to join in can contribute via comments. (For those who wish to retain some privacy or avoid joining here, you can email me your text, and I’ll post it on your behalf.)

Suggestions for ways to enhance the virtual party are welcome. I will post a link to this entry in the “Noteworthy Nodes” section as a friendly reminder, too. Oh, and for those of you who might be wondering what the One Little Victory is all about, here are the lyrics for your enjoyment:

A certain measure of innocence
Willing to appear naïve
A certain degree of imagination
A measure of make-believe

A certain degree of surrender
To the forces of light and heat
A shot of satisfaction
In a willingness to risk defeat

Celebrate the moment
As it turns into one more
Another chance at victory
Another chance to score

The measure of the moment
Is a difference of degree
Just one little victory
A spirit breaking free
One little victory
The greatest act can be
One little victory

A certain measure of righteousness
A certain amount of force
A certain degree of determination
Daring on a different course

A certain amount of resistance
To the forces of the light and love
A certain measure of tolerance
A willingness to rise above

Update: One needn’t choose a goal or project, or anything specific to shoot toward for this celebration. My purpose in doing this is to encourage greater mindfulness of our efforts to break out of our routines and habits ... and to dare to take a different course.

I'm not a party-man, but...

So this will be like a carnival post in the comments, huh? And here I was hoping for refreshments. I guess I'll have to settle for spiritual refreshment (whenever this heathen figures out what "spirit" is).

I guess you could describe it that way.

And not being able to figure out what “spirit” is hasn’t stopped this heathen from celebrating it ... maybe think of it as one’s will.

Of course, I am happy to provide refreshments ... just don’t know how I’d pass ’em out online.

Is the party over here???

I'll be here on the 16th of January. I'll bring the hummus!

Yum!

Thanks—and thanks for reminding me: it’s been far too long since I made that wonderful stuff.

I'll be there

Looking forward to meeting friends there :-)

Great!

I’m looking forward to your contributions, Shaun.

Night of January 16th

Sounds a little Randian to me. :)
Wouldn't miss it for the world. I'll bring the beer.

That was deliberate!

Although I can’t say that with quite the character Gimli did.

So glad you’ll be participating—I’m really looking forward to it too!

On a less lame note: hi all. I'll come back tomorrow for the celebration - I have a conference call to endure shortly. But I figured one lil post would go unnoticed by the great timeclock in the sky.

I WILL NOT SERVE

Crazy, yes ... Lame, nevah!

Welcome, Non!
