I know, I know—I should be raving about That Big Band’s reunion. And sure, I wish I could’ve been there too ... but I’ve been craving old music of a different sort lately.
For some weird reason probably unknowable to all the sages and seers, my dear friend Chris Sciabarra’s Song of the Day today, Disco Inferno, clicked my mind over to an R&B band I adored back in the day, and whose name I have an exceedingly hard time remembering. I have a hard time picking a favorite Spinners song (what a shock, eh?), but this one is always near the top; the mellow groove and three vocalists—especially that velvety bass—is damned hard to top.

Interesting that what I thought was the title is actually its subtitle ... Of course, I listened to several other Spinners songs ... was sad to see that another one that I greatly like (it’s so fricking fun to play!) was used in a commercial ... but for those who aren’t sick of it in that context, this is an energetic live version of Rubber Band Man (YouTube). Come on y’all, get down!
Living (Briefly) in the Past

Ack!
Your spam filter ate my comment! I was just trying to give you some extra added funk! Can you fix it?
Yes, I did.
Thanks very much! Bootsy has an amazingly wacky bass ... love the sound (Snolf the First, not so much, however).
More Zeppelin
The past seems a very familiar place and therefore comfortable. My Blogging has not been "textual" or often very "verbose" lately, but I had a few things to write about the pulling of videos today.
I'm not sure why the video I used yesterday comes up as unavailable in that blog entry, since it does not (at this posting) show as removed when accessed directly on YouTube. However, it doesn't play that way either.
It was among the top viewed on YouTube only recently and was in their feeds for "most viewed." Traffic may be very high I suppose and make for long queues. Maybe then it gets marked unavailable. In any case, other YouTube videos from the O2 concert have been removed in the last day or so.
Might be
One of my other favorite vids did get pulled recently ... not for explicit content (which it had, if one is of the sort to consider a woman’s breasts to belong in that category), but for an alleged IP violation. I did see your original vid earlier today, so I suspect your hypothesis is spot on.
Pink? No, not that vid
I'm not a huge Aerosmith fan, but I do like this video and your comment above brought it to mind. However, it still can be played and embedded -
For the curious, no, I haven't wrapped lovers in rubber; and have no conscious desires to do so.
Not that you’d admit to it here, anyway!
... no, I haven't wrapped lovers in rubber; and have no conscious desires to do so.
Ah, but it’s those unconscious desires that are our downfall, at least according to Dr. Freud and others of his ilk.
More to the point (is there one?), I cannot watch this vid, because I have a thorough and probably mostly irrational, enormously intense dislike of that song.
Unconscious desires
Worrying about the conscious stuff takes most of my time.
I'm sorry I posted something here you didn't like. I admit that video (and song) has some odd stuff in it, but . . . Well, I guess I do qualify as somewhat odd. I like its outlandish nature, e.g. band members as guitar playing centaurs.
I just discovered a place online I didn't know about before for music, here.
NBD!
No need to apologize—there’s no way you could’ve known that, and besides, this place is yours too.
That is a cool spot! Dunno that I can take advantage of it here without getting FAPped, though ... which reminds me: was/is it possible to download and save YouTube vids? Anybody know?
There is
There is a command-line script called youtube-dl. It's in the Ubuntu Universe repository available in your package manager.

Extra Added Funk!
I'm into a little extra added funk right now. I like Earth, Wind, and Fire. Verdine White is a great bassist. Here's a great video of Verdine White and Morris Pleasure doing a little dueling bass:

If that's not funky enough for you, we could go with a little Bootsy Collins!
