I’ve been wanting to start a fast for some time now—and upon searching for that entry, I discovered that the subject was broached here quite some time ago. But I told myself I’d wait until “the time was right” to start, so that I’d be more likely to succeed.
I’m sure you can see where I’m heading with that ... it became a convenient excuse to avoid starting. My situation isn’t going to change anytime soon—I still have candies to make and cooking to do for my family—so I’ve decided to just start it today. By that I mean easing into the water fast itself, by scaling back the quantity I eat and eliminating some food groups as well. That will also reduce the chances of me becoming even more brain-dead than usual and not being able to meet my writing deadlines before the real fasting begins.
I don’t have a specific length for my fast in mind, beyond sticking out the first three days, which seem to be the hardest. My experiences and needs will be my guide.
(And I’ll try not to bore you eleven with constant updates and navel-gazing through it all.)
Today is the Day I Start On My Fast.

(Parenthetically)
(That's why we're here, though.)
(Not to be bored - 'cuz we're not - but to... oh, nevermind.)
Goals?
So the sole purpose of this fast is for what? Is it a spiritual/metaphysical thing as well as a physical thing (just weight loss?)?
Perhaps surprisingly
Weight loss is the least of my goals, actually. The primary one is to help address various health concerns, with spiritual issues running a very close second.
(I understand what you kinda-sorta said, but even so, constant focus on this experiment would quickly become boring. ;-)
I should've known
I am glad that weight loss is an insignificant goal - the spiritual benefits of healthy self-perception aside. It just seemed a drastic measure in such a regard and it worried me a bit.
Best of luck and well-being to you.
I should clarify ...
Weight loss is a primary goal for me—outside of the fast. I made a list of goals to accomplish this month (thanks again, Jorge!), which includes “lose 5 pounds”. As I’m 80% of the way there already, the fast is incidental at best to achieving that goal.
That said, I deeply appreciate your concern. Thanks, Pint!
So...
So then, spiritual issues are not your soul reason for this, huh?
- NonE (like TOTALLY out of control again!)
Good luck
I hope you it works well for you and look forward to reading about the experience.
Take care of yourself during your fast
Give yourself some extra slack during the fast, and get plenty of rest. I look forward to reading more about your time fasting. I don't find it boring at all!
I've done fruit fasting before, to clear toxins out of my system. I'm interested to compare out experiences.
Thanks, both of you.
I’m not going to conduct this as an über-rigid experiment, but rather as an exploration. That said, I do intend to avoid all solid foods, but may stray from just water. (I’ve been drinking an apple-cider vinegar drink fairly regularly and it seems to be helping me some, so I will probably continue that on an every-other-day basis or something.)
