Arrrgh. I don't know if my difficulties of the past few days are solely due to too much work and too little sleep, the return of some health problems (bye-bye, olfactory and gustatory senses -- you were wonderful while you were here again), or other as-yet-unidentified stresses, but I'm maxed out right now. I'd been browsing news and blogs, with an eye toward a more interesting and informative post than my first one today, but with my last stop -- at the Palace o' the Salty Pig -- something in my head went Boink!, and shut off. So I'm gonna shut off for the rest of the day too, and try to calm down and enjoy myself a bit.
Before doing so, I'd like to thank the many terrific people I've met through this blog, whose comments -- both public and private -- have made it a better place than I'd hoped it could be when I started it. (For those of you who wrote and asked if you could pay for my thoughts, presumably in response to my preamble here -- that's very sweet, but no, you can't. There's a snake story there, but I dunno when I'll get time to spill it.) Right after going boink, I remembered a photo I'd seen on the excellent Schneier on Security blog that seems appropriate for my state of mind right now:
There's a lot of bad stuff happening these days -- especially for those of us who value liberty. I think it's going to get much worse before it gets better. Rather than give up, though, there are workarounds waiting to be discovered and exploited. That photo's a great example and inspiration for me; I hope it helps you, too.

i love that pic! is that a book cover waiting to happen? really makes you think about human action.
